Chambord, Loire side

In the port of Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire, let yourself be lulled by the sounds of the river, hypnotized by its ever-changing movement, let your gaze wander over the horizon or follow the flight of a fishing tern...
The destiny of Saint-Dyé changed in 1519, when a king of France began to build a sumptuous castle, 4 km further south.
Those long works transformed the village into an essential logistics point, at a time when rivers, "the paths that walk", were much widely used for transportation.
Steeped in history, with an active community life and businesses (grocery store, bakery, restaurants), the village of Saint-Dyé will seduce you with its discreet streets, its majestic church, and its varied stone houses.

Beauty all around

What would the Loire Valley be without its natural setting, without the rivers that give it life, without the beauty of its wildlife ? On foot, by bike, by canoe, take the time to discover these wonders.More...

Saint-Dyé is a stopover on the Loire by bike, and cycle paths allow you to safely reach the Chambord domain as well as the center of Blois or the Mer railway station, along or across the river.

For walks in the forest (on foot or by bike), choose the open part of the Chambord park, the vast national forests in the surrounding area or even Sologne. Be sure to stay on the paths and respect the flora and fauna !
You can stop off in one of the villages that one finds every 5 km in the Loire Valley (those of Sologne are further away).

To admire wildlife, the key words are patience, silence, and choice of times. The animals have adapted to us and it is usually at dawn or dusk that we can observe their rituals. Birds are generally visible during the daytime on the Loire, more or less numerous depending on the season.

Chambord marks the border between the Loire Valley to the north and Sologne to the south, characterized by its numerous ponds. The one in Beaumont provides you with an observatory.
VCCK, the Saint-Dyé canoe-kayak club, will offer you descents of the Loire. It is also possible to book, at the port, group rides in a traditional boat (up to 12 passengers).

The Valley of towns and castles

Towns large and small have sprung up along the river, each with its own personality and treasures. But the most surprising thing about the Loire Valley is its countless châteaux, grandiose or discreet.More...

From Saint-Dyé, set off to discover the heritage of the Loire Valley and Sologne : towns and a multitude of small villages with preserved traditional buildings, made of Beauce limestone, tuffeau, half-timbering, bricks, slates and tiles, ideal places for walking or cycling ; a gastronomic heritage to be enjoyed in some of the most creative restaurants in the region ; and the famous castles, including
: - Chambord, of course, the most impressive for its size, its ornaments and its park, where you can walk for free. It is also the most accessible from Saint-Dyé (4 km).
But the boat is also :
- 12 km from Blois and its royal castle, representative of architecture from the 13th to the 17th centuries
- 12 km from Villesavin Castle, a perfect example of the charm of “small” castles built during the Renaissance by the royal entourage
- 13 km from Talcy Castle, where Cassandre, muse of the great poet Ronsard, lived
- 15 km from Beauregard Castle and its extraordinary portrait gallery
- 18 km from the park and the castle of Cheverny, the “real” castle of Tintin & Captain Haddock's Moulinsart
- 30 km from the park and the castle of Chaumont-sur-Loire, which offers the most majestic panoramas of the Loire, and has hosted the renowned International Garden Festival since 1992.

And it's up to you to discover all the others (Fougères-sur-Bièvre, Troussay, Beaugency, Le Gué-Péan, Chenonceau, Meung-sur-Loire, Amboise,...) !
